A car that never existed in GTA III drove fans crazy for years — and Rockstar trolled them hard.
The Maibatsu Monstrosity was a massive SUV that only appeared in a single ad in GTA III's manual. Despite having no actual model in the game files, players spent years searching for it. Rockstar eventually joined the joke, with an employee posting 'I drive my Maibatsu Monstrosity to work each day' before admitting it didn't exist. The legend grew so big that GTA Liberty City Stories canonized the rumor as an in-universe news article predicting the SUV would 'hit the streets' in 2001 — the exact year GTA III takes place.
