Take-Two CEO Predicts Viable Game Streaming in Three Years

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors that commercial-grade video game streaming with low latency should arrive within three years. He stressed that the technology would need to run titles like GTA 6 at console levels of fidelity and responsiveness to be relevant. The comments came during discussion of rising chip costs that have pushed console prices higher.

Zelnick's Three-Year Streaming Forecast

Zelnick described streaming as arriving soon enough to turn non-gaming devices into capable game machines. He projected that low-latency commercial streaming would expand the effective install base significantly within three years, even if it does not immediately multiply revenue from existing core players.

“I don't think it'll be relevant to us if you can't support titles like GTA.”

In a follow-up with IGN, Zelnick confirmed that streaming would have to match console performance on GTA 6 for the service to hold value for Take-Two. He noted his timeline remains a speculation because the required technology does not yet exist.

Hardware Cost Pressures on Consoles

Zelnick acknowledged that escalating component prices are not helpful for software publishers because they reduce the number of devices in players' hands. He suggested streaming could offset this limitation by broadening access without requiring new hardware purchases, and he said it would not surprise him if Sony and Microsoft incorporate streaming heavily in their plans.
