Xbox Denies Reports of Exclusive GTA 6 Streaming Rights

Xbox has denied unconfirmed reports claiming it secured exclusive game-streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6. The rumor originated from a Verge article referencing an all-hands meeting, yet Xbox's chief strategy officer stated the game will launch on Xbox consoles November 19 without exclusive streaming or PC access. The denial leaves open the possibility of non-exclusive console cloud options.

Rumor Origin and Xbox Denial

Speculation arose after a Verge report cited comments from an Xbox executive meeting about unique plans for GTA 6 streaming. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball quickly addressed the claims on X, noting that excitement had led to misreporting.

“We are looking forward to launching GTA 6 on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC”

— Matthew Ball

What Remains Unaddressed on Console Streaming

Xbox Denies Reports of Exclusive GTA 6 Streaming Rights

Ball did not rule out Xbox holding cloud streaming rights limited to its own consoles. Under that scenario, owners would still need to buy the game and hold a Cloud Gaming subscription to stream it to supported devices other than PC.

Shifts in Xbox Cloud Gaming Model

The service has introduced monthly play-hour caps for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers after previously offering unlimited access. Xbox plans a standalone paid streaming option launching in November alongside tests of an ad-supported free tier for Insiders.
