GTA 6 becomes eligible for The Game Awards 2026 because its November 19 release falls one day before the November 20 cutoff. The timing allows nominations across categories and raises questions about whether the game can exceed prior records. According to Eurogamer, the awards ceremony is scheduled for December 10.
Tight Eligibility Window
The Game Awards require commercial availability on or before November 20 at 9pm PT. GTA 6's release date satisfies the rule by the narrowest margin. Past cutoffs have remained consistent year to year with only minor shifts of a day or two.
Awards History and Records to Beat
Red Dead Redemption 2 earned four awards in 2018, including Best Narrative and Best Performance. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 holds the current record with nine wins last year. Baldur's Gate 3 previously led with six victories.
Rockstar Developments Around Launch
A new trailer released this week focuses on protagonists Jason and Lucia. Rockstar North also faces an employment tribunal in Scotland over the dismissal of 31 staff last year, with a verdict expected near the game's release.
