Miami Beach Approves GTA 6 Ad Negotiations in 4-3 Vote

The City of Miami Beach has approved negotiations with Rockstar Games for a Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing campaign that would place limited advertisements in exchange for several million dollars. The 4-3 decision came after commissioners weighed the game's violent content against the financial benefits for local projects. Ads would appear only on specific private items and avoid city property or major events.

Deal Terms and Advertising Limits

Negotiations center on a base payment of $3 million that commissioners aim to raise closer to $4 million in total value. The campaign would run from October 15 through the end of the year on Boucher Brothers beach chairs and umbrellas, using only the roman numerals VI or the words Vice City. No advertisements would appear on city-owned land, landmarks, lifeguard stands, or during the Art Basel event.

Commission Debate Over Violence and Revenue

Commissioner David Suarez opposed the partnership and screened footage from GTA 5 and the recent GTA 6 trailer to highlight police chases and other content. Commissioner Tanya Katzoff Bhatt countered that the promotion would arrive regardless and that the funds could cover the unfunded Flamingo football field renovation for local families.

“I certainly don't want to see our brand associated with this video game, I don't think it's worth any amount of money.”

Broader Regional Discussions

Miami-Dade County sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz publicly criticized any government tie to the franchise, arguing it promotes criminal activity. Separate reports indicate Rockstar is also nearing an agreement with Miami Heat affiliate Basketball Properties and Miami-Dade County for a large GTA 6 sign on the Kaseya Center roof.
