Video Game Plus, a North American independent retailer, stated it will not offer the code-in-box version of Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. The store has maintained a policy against carrying console games sold solely as download codes for nearly 40 years to support physical media ownership.

The retailer clarified the decision does not target Rockstar or the game itself and said it would stock a disc-based edition if one becomes available.

Loot Box Gaming, another independent U.S. store, indicated it will not support the GTA 6 release if the product ships without a disc. The retailer emphasized its focus on media preservation and respect for customers who purchase physical copies.
