Grand Theft Auto 6's standard edition will retail for $80. GameSpot reports that Ampere Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott believes other publishers risk drawing the wrong conclusion from the price. He argues most should retain a $70 base price and layer on $80 to $100 premium editions instead.
Analyst Pricing Concerns
Elliott explained that publishers could incorrectly treat GTA 6's price as permission to charge $80 for every major AAA release, including ordinary or new-IP titles.
“So my worry is that a lot of publishers read 'GTA is $80' as a green light and push their own run-of-the-mill or new-IP games to $80, when the right lesson is the opposite.”
