Former Rockstar Dev Calls GTA 6 Leaks Insignificant

A former Rockstar technical director has described the recent GTA 6 gameplay leaks as having little effect on the game's prospects. Obbe Vermeij, who left the studio in 2009, argued that the 2005 Hot Coffee controversy inflicted far more lasting damage on the company. His remarks arrive while Take-Two pursues the leaker known as CyberLeek ahead of the Netflix reveal.

Leaker Releases Multiple Videos

CyberLeek has posted ten gameplay clips and a full map image over six days. Take-Two has issued subpoenas to Microsoft, Discord, and X in an attempt to identify those responsible. The company has not altered plans for its timed Netflix reveal scheduled for next week.

Former Rockstar Dev Calls GTA 6 Leaks Insignificant

Vermeij stated that most future players avoid online spoilers and that the leaks represent only a small setback. He noted internal frustration at Rockstar but insisted the footage will not alter the title's commercial trajectory. The developer added that any working build shown likely runs only on development hardware.

Hot Coffee Caused Greater Harm

“The leaks are a nothing burger”

— Obbe Vermeij

Vermeij recalled that the 2005 Hot Coffee incident forced the withdrawal of San Andreas from U.S. stores and required an Adults Only rating until a revised version shipped. He estimated the episode cost Take-Two around fifty million dollars and nearly caused the company to collapse. Vermeij concluded that even story spoilers would not stop players from buying the game.
