Developers have moved many 2026 releases into September and October to steer clear of GTA 6. The shift has produced one of the densest triple-A and indie lineups in years. Onimusha: Way of the Sword now sits at the center of that cluster with a 25 September date, according to Eurogamer.
Shift Away from GTA 6 Creates New Bottleneck
Studios originally moved their games to protect sales from GTA 6's expected draw. The result is a concentrated release period where titles now compete against each other instead of Rockstar's open-world game.
Onimusha Producer Accepts the Date

Capcom announced the 25 September 2026 release during the June State of Play. Producer Akihito Kadowaki noted the team cannot change course after the announcement.
“We've already said we're releasing it, we can't back out now!”
Kadowaki expressed surprise at the volume of games landing in the same months but believes Onimusha's combat and setting will help it stand apart.
