Upgrade Eligibility Across Platforms
Any owner of a PS4 copy of GTA 5 qualifies for the free move to the PS5 version, whether the original was physical or digital. Xbox One players receive the same offer only if they own the digital edition, while PC users can switch from the legacy edition to the enhanced edition at no charge.
What the 2022 Versions Added
The upgraded releases that arrived in 2022 introduced a fidelity mode supporting up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second along with faster storage access, 3D audio and DualSense controller features. Until now those versions required a full purchase or a limited-time paid upgrade path that has since ended.
Progress Transfer and GTA Online Timing
A one-time migration process lets players carry both story mode and GTA Online progress to the new platforms so years of saved data remain intact. The upgrade news coincides with early details on the next GTA Online update, which adds The Kortz Center Heist in July and remains playable on last-generation consoles.
