GTA 6 Landmass Nearly Matches GTA 4, 5 and RDR2 Combined

Rockstar told Edge magazine that GTA 6's total landmass is nearly as large as the playable areas of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. The map is described as roughly twice the size of GTA 5 and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2. Co-studio head Aaron Garbut highlighted the game's interior count and detail level in the interview reported by GameSpot.

Map Size Breakdown

The developer stated that GTA 6 features a landmass nearly equal to the combined maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar also noted the new map is about twice the size of GTA 5 and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Focus on Density and Interiors

Garbut said the game contains an order of magnitude more interiors than any prior Rockstar title. He added that every back alley receives the same level of detail and that some locations remain unseen even to him after years of work.

“Every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others. You can go anywhere, any random location, and so many people have thought about that location.”

Expectations After 13 Years

Garbut acknowledged the long wait and high expectations, stating the team avoided easy or predictable choices. He stressed that scale and detail were not compromised during development, according to the GameSpot report.
