French retailer FNAC listed provisional prices of €89.99, €119.99 and €199.99 for standard, deluxe and collector editions before removing them. Converted figures suggest roughly £78, £104 and £173 in the UK. Comparable titles already carry high costs, including a £74.99 physical Mario Kart World edition.
Analysts Assess Pricing Options
Circana's Mat Piscatella called elevated prices possible yet noted Take-Two could pursue almost any strategy. Chris Dring of The Game Business said most players resist higher costs but GTA 6 stands apart because fans recognize its long-term value. Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics predicted a £70-£80 base price, arguing higher editions will capture the bulk of early revenue while protecting the player funnel that feeds GTA Online.
Launch Expectations and Migration Concerns
Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls highlighted mid-tier editions offering early access as likely to exceed $100 and draw significant pre-order spending. Elliott warned that a £100-plus base price would raise switching costs for GTA 5 owners, of whom 225 million copies have sold, and could deter players already facing cost-of-living pressures. All analysts expect record purchase intent and one of the largest entertainment launches ever.
