Firings Spark Union and Tribunal Dispute
Thirty-one employees at Rockstar North in Edinburgh were dismissed for gross misconduct, all of whom belonged to the IWGB Game Workers Union. The action prompted claims of union-busting and led to an employment tribunal between the union and Rockstar. A separate Rockstar Game Workers Union formed earlier this year and has since grown, with the matter raised in UK Parliament by former prime minister Keir Starmer.
Zelnick Defends Company Labor Practices
Speaking to The Game Business, Zelnick said the firm is proud of its labor relations and maintains the lowest attrition rate in the industry. He noted that Rockstar's rate is half of Take-Two's already low figure and described the workforce of 13,000 as exceptionally treated and compensated. The comments were made after Take-Two released its most recent financial results.
“[We're] not in the least [concerned]. How you develop the game is different from the nature of your labour relations.”
Trial Date and GTA 6 Outlook
The employment tribunal is scheduled to begin on 10 September. While the dispute has drawn public attention, GTA 6 remains on track to become one of the highest-selling games ever released.
