Rockstar has re-engineered the weather system in Grand Theft Auto 6 to produce more localized and persistent effects in the Leonida setting. The changes target a sense of scale and solidity not previously achieved, with dynamic cloudscapes and variable rain patterns that mirror Florida conditions. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, according to GameSpot.

Vice president of art for lighting and rendering Owen Shepherd explained that the studio reworked its weather tools to emphasize localization and persistence throughout the game world.

The updated system supports fully dynamic cloudscapes that move across the map, localized rain showers, visible rainbows, and areas that stay wet with puddles after rain. A new wind system is also part of the overhaul.
