Sony Secures Memory for PS5 Sales Targets

Sony stated it has obtained the memory required to hit its PlayStation 5 sales targets for the financial year ending March 31, 2027. The announcement arrives as Grand Theft Auto VI prepares for its November debut and global component shortages continue to affect console makers. The firm also raised its gaming revenue forecast after receiving a U.S. tariff refund.

Supply Outlook Amid Industry Shortages

Sony told investors it has secured the memory volumes needed to reach planned PS5 sales for the current fiscal year. The company added that hardware profitability targets remain unchanged from the prior year. This stance contrasts with broader market concerns over component availability and recent price increases announced by multiple console manufacturers.

Sony Secures Memory for PS5 Sales Targets

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI is viewed as the primary driver of potential PS5 demand this year, with no PC version planned at launch. Sony also cited Marvel’s Wolverine in September and God of War Laufey in February as additional titles expected to support hardware sales. The company noted that sufficient stock will be essential to capture new buyers upgrading for these releases.

Quarterly Results and Forecast Revision

PlayStation sold 1.6 million PS5 units in the first quarter, down roughly one-third year-over-year, bringing cumulative sales to 95.3 million. Monthly active users reached a June record of 125 million. Sony raised its full-year gaming sales outlook by 3 percent, partly due to a refund on U.S. tariffs, while flagging higher costs tied to next-generation development and restructuring.
