Experts Doubt 60fps Mode for GTA 6 on Current Consoles

Unconfirmed retailer listings have sparked rumors of quality and performance modes for GTA 6 that would support 60 frames per second. Tech analysts at Digital Foundry examined the trailer, screenshots and other clips and concluded that the game's level of detail makes such a mode improbable on existing hardware. The assessment aligns with Rockstar's history of prioritizing visual fidelity over higher frame rates on consoles.

Digital Foundry Technical Assessment

Analysts reviewed all released GTA 6 material and found the simulation demands and open-world movement speed exceed what current-generation CPUs can handle at 60fps. They compared the title to other demanding open-world games and determined that scaling down detail sufficiently would not be feasible. A 30fps target is therefore expected across PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

“Unfortunately, the level of detail evident in the trailer, preorder screenshots and other, more recent footage seems extremely challenging to scale down in a way that allows for a 60fps mode”

Experts Doubt 60fps Mode for GTA 6 on Current Consoles

Past Rockstar titles including GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched with a focus on 30fps fidelity rather than 60fps performance on consoles. The more powerful PS5 Pro offers only marginal CPU gains, leading analysts to suggest a 40fps mode might be the realistic ceiling if any higher frame-rate option appears at all. All claims remain speculative until Rockstar provides official details.
